BaD Modelers - a Treasury of Ideas and Examples from some of our Best

Siro Cadaval Lopez, Shipbuilder

USS Lake Erie CG-70

I have spent the better part of two years on this build, but thankfully, John tells me that's how long he spent on his Knox Class Frigate, so I'm OK with it now... I bought the model in July of 2009 and since then I have had email correspondence with Keith Mullen, sending photos of the state of construction of the model until today, (the model can now navigate, but lacks details and decorative finish)... Keith and I have made friends through emails, and Keith has asked me to give you a brief history of the building and photos of the model under construction.

Note that the final model is not an exact number of a ship currently in service or decommissioned.- I made modifications that do not correspond to a specific numeral. In fact the first thing you notice is that my model has the MK 26 launcher on the bow and the MK 41 VLS launcher aft .- This is for freedom of the model maker. The outer arms are more colorful and functional. One can also think that the ship is being upgraded.

This is a wonderful model I'm very proud of and I assume to presume it's awesome. Hours of work: A year and a half. I can not specify the hours .Cost: Besides the starter kit, I should have/probably invested some € 4500-5000 to date.

Torpedo tube cutouts...   ...and OH, he has his OWN pool to float it in... jeez...

Cast Resin SH-60, folded for the hangar   Helo Deck lighting, simply awesome...

OH, almost forgot the Hangar interior... you've GOT to be kidding me...   This just gets better and better... wow...

...and it gets better... switchable Red Lights   More of the same....

Helo Tie-Down chains   Close-up of how this was done...

Deck and Nav Lights...one of several shots...   More Deck lights

...and more.   ....and yet another shot.

Siro doesn't know the meaning of the words "You're Done"...   ... and keeps going - the detail is stunning.

More Helicopter madness!   ...inside the Hanger.

Loading Torps on the Bird   Yes, it's LIT UP on the inside... with tie-down chains.
